Privacy Policy

Effective 16 September 2026. Written to meet Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), Directive 2002/58/EC (ePrivacy) and Czech Act No. 110/2019 Coll.

The short version. We do not ask you for your name, your e-mail or any account. Nothing that identifies you is collected unless you press "Accept" on the cookie banner. If you refuse, the only thing stored is a note that you refused. You can change your mind at any time using .

2. What we process, and on what basis

This is the complete list. Where the legal basis is consent, nothing in that row happens at all until you give it.

Categories of personal data processed by aethervane.online, with purpose, legal basis and retention
WhatWhyLegal basisKept for
Server log data: IP address, date and time, page requested, HTTP status, user agent, referring URLDelivering the page you asked for, keeping the server running, spotting attacks and abuseArt. 6(1)(f) — our legitimate interest in operating and securing the siteUp to 14 days, then deleted
Your consent choice (stored in your browser, not sent to us)Remembering whether you accepted or refused, so we do not ask again and do not override your answerArt. 6(1)(c) and Art. 6(1)(f) — we are required to honour your choice; storage is strictly necessary for a service you requested12 months, or until you clear it
Analytics data: pages viewed, time on page, scroll depth, approximate region, device and browser typeUnderstanding which parts of a guide are actually read, so we can improve themArt. 6(1)(a) — your consentMaximum 14 months
Advertising and conversion data: click identifiers, campaign identifiers, cookie identifiers set by Microsoft Advertising and by our affiliate partner networkMeasuring which advertisement brought you here, and crediting a referral to the correct partnerArt. 6(1)(a) — your consentMaximum 90 days on our side; the partner's own retention is set out in its policy
Anything you write to us: your e-mail address, your name if you give it, and the content of your messageReading and answering youArt. 6(1)(f), or Art. 6(1)(c) where you are exercising a data subject right24 months after the matter is closed, unless we must keep it longer

We do not process special categories of data under Article 9 GDPR. We do not collect passwords, payment card numbers or government identification numbers through this website. We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal effects concerning you within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR. We do not sell personal data.

On your first visit a banner asks whether you allow analytics and advertising cookies. Both categories are switched off until you switch them on. "Reject all" is offered on the same screen, with the same prominence, as "Accept all". Refusing costs you nothing and the whole site remains usable. Closing the banner without choosing is not treated as consent.

Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it: open , switch a category off, and save. Withdrawal takes effect immediately for the future and does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before it.

4. Who receives your data

We keep the list of recipients as short as we can. It is:

  • Our hosting provider, which stores the server logs on our behalf as a processor under Article 28 GDPR.
  • Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited / Microsoft Corporation — only if you consent to advertising cookies. The Microsoft Advertising UET tag then reports that a visit or a conversion followed one of our advertisements. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement and its advertising privacy information.
  • Our affiliate partner network — only if you consent to advertising cookies, and only for a referral you actually make by clicking a partner link. The network receives the click identifier needed to credit the referral.
  • Professional advisers and authorities, where we are legally obliged to disclose, or need to establish or defend a legal claim.

When you click a partner link you leave this website. From that point the partner is an independent controller of whatever it collects, under its own privacy policy, and we have no control over it. Read that policy before you register with them.

5. Transfers outside the EEA

If you consent to advertising cookies, data may be transferred to the United States, principally to Microsoft. Those transfers are made on the basis of the European Commission's adequacy decision of 10 July 2023 for the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified under it, and otherwise on the basis of Standard Contractual Clauses adopted under Article 46(2)(c) GDPR, together with supplementary measures where needed. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards relied on by writing to info@aethervane.online. If you do not consent to advertising cookies, no such transfer takes place.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access (Art. 15) — be told whether we process data about you, and get a copy.
  • Rectification (Art. 16) — have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Erasure (Art. 17) — have data deleted where the conditions are met.
  • Restriction (Art. 18) — have processing paused while a dispute is resolved.
  • Data portability (Art. 20) — receive data you provided in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Object (Art. 21) — object at any time to processing based on legitimate interest, including any profiling based on it.
  • Withdraw consent (Art. 7(3)) — at any time, without giving a reason, through Cookie settings.
  • Complain (Art. 77) — to a supervisory authority.

Exercise any of these by writing to info@aethervane.online. We answer within one month of receiving the request, and we tell you if we need the extension permitted by Article 12(3). Exercising your rights is free; we only charge for manifestly unfounded or excessive requests, as Article 12(5) permits.

One practical caveat, stated plainly: because we do not run accounts and the identifiers described above are held in your own browser, we usually cannot link a request to a specific past visitor. In that case Article 11(2) applies and we will tell you so rather than ask you for extra identifying information we do not need.

Your supervisory authority in the Czech Republic is Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů, Pplk. Sochora 27, 170 00 Praha 7, uoou.cz. If you live elsewhere in the EEA you may instead complain to the authority in your own country of residence or workplace.

7. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the server is restricted to the people who need it. We apply the measures required by Article 32 GDPR in proportion to the limited data we hold. If a breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights, we will notify the supervisory authority under Article 33 and, where the risk is high, the people affected under Article 34.

8. Children

This website is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly process their personal data. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided data to us, write to info@aethervane.online and we will delete it.

9. Cookies

The full list of cookies and similar technologies, with providers, purposes and lifetimes, is in the Cookie Policy.

10. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our processing changes. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects you, we will ask for fresh consent rather than rely on the old one.
